What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
Keep the bad guys out
What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?
MFA is an additional layer of security designed to protect your accounts and sensitive information. Traditionally, authentication relies on a single factor, typically a username & password combination. However, MFA requires you to provide two or more verification factors to access your accounts, adding an extra layer of protection. You likely already use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for accessing sensitive information, such as your bank or CRA accounts, where an additional layer of security is required during login.
How does MFA work?
When you enable MFA, you will still need to enter your username and password as usual. However, after providing this initial information, you will be prompted to verify your identity through a second factor. This could be a temporary code sent to your mobile device, a fingerprint scan, or another form of verification.
Why are we implementing MFA?
In early 2024 Microsoft will be enforcing MFA across the entire office 365 business suite due to increased cyber breaches and threats. MFA will significantly enhance the security of your account. Passwords alone are vulnerable to hacking, and MFA helps mitigate this risk by requiring multiple forms of verification. By implementing MFA, we are taking proactive measures to safeguard your data and ensure the confidentiality of your information.
How will this affect you?
Enabling MFA is a straightforward process that adds an extra layer of protection to your online accounts. While it may require a few additional steps during the login process, the enhanced security is well worth the effort. We will be here to assist you through the set-up process and provide any necessary support.
What do you need to do?
In the coming weeks, you will be receiving further instructions on how to enable MFA for your accounts. The process will be simple, and we will provide step-by-step guidance to ensure a smooth transition.
